Airflow inspection

Dryer Vent Repair in Charlotte, NC

A dryer can only dry as fast as it can push hot, wet air outside. Our dryer vent repair service in Charlotte traces that air from the back of the machine to the hood on your exterior wall, finds where it is getting trapped, and fixes it.

Signs of a clogged or crushed vent

If two or more of these sound familiar, the vent is the first thing to check, before replacing parts.

  • Loads need two or three cycles to dry
  • Clothes come out hot but still damp
  • The top or sides of the dryer feel very hot
  • The laundry room gets warm and humid
  • Little or no airflow at the outside vent while running
  • Lint collects around the door or behind the dryer
  • A burning or scorched smell during a cycle
  • The dryer shuts off before the cycle ends

What we check and fix

Our inspection follows the air, stop by stop.

  1. Behind the dryer

    Transition duct

The short flexible piece between the dryer and the wall is the most common problem spot. We look for kinks, crushing from a dryer pushed too far back, loose clamps and a duct that has slipped off entirely, venting lint and moist air into the room or wall cavity.

  2. Inside the walls

    Lint buildup in the run

Lint that gets past the filter settles in the duct, especially at bends and long runs. We check airflow, clear buildup we can reach, and tell you plainly if a section needs specialized cleaning or replacement.

  3. Joints and connections

    Disconnected or damaged duct

Separated joints in an attic, crawlspace or wall leak warm, wet air and let lint collect where you cannot see it. We reconnect or replace damaged sections we can access.

  4. Outside the house

    Exterior hood

A hood flap stuck shut, a clogged screen, lint packed at the outlet, or a bird nest can block the whole system. We clear the outlet and confirm the flap opens freely when the dryer runs.

Why airflow decides drying time and safety

Drying time

Heat dries clothes by turning water into vapor, and moving air carries that vapor out. When the vent is restricted, wet air stays in the drum, so the dryer keeps running while clothes stay damp. Longer cycles also mean more energy used per load.

Heat and parts

Trapped air raises the temperature inside the cabinet. Safety parts like the thermal fuse and high-limit thermostat are designed to cut heat when that happens, which shows up as a dryer that stops heating or shuts off mid-cycle.

Fire risk

Lint is very flammable. Built up near heat, it is a known cause of dryer fires. If you smell burning, stop the dryer, unplug it and let it cool before anyone uses it again.

Dryer vent questions

How do I know if my dryer vent is clogged?

The most common signs are loads that take much longer than they used to, clothes that are hot but damp, a dryer cabinet that feels very hot, and weak airflow at the outside vent while the dryer runs. If you notice a burning smell, stop the dryer and have it checked before the next load.

Can a clogged vent damage my dryer?

Yes. When hot air cannot leave, the dryer runs hotter and longer. That can blow the thermal fuse, wear out heating parts and cause shut-offs mid-cycle. Fixing the vent often matters as much as replacing the part that failed. See gas dryer repair for how this affects gas models.

Is lint in the dryer vent a fire risk?

Lint is combustible, and buildup can restrict airflow and allow heat to accumulate. Clean the lint filter every load and keep the vent clear. If you see lint around the exhaust or smell burning, stop using the dryer and arrange an inspection.

Do you also repair the dryer itself?

Yes. If restricted airflow has already damaged a part, we can repair the dryer during the same visit when the part is available. Learn more on our dryer repair in Charlotte page.
